Mosquitoes in Onondaga County. 2012 looks like it will see a bumper crop of mosquitoes in Onondaga, Madison, Oswego and Oneida Counties in Upstate, New York. By late March swarms of young mosquitoes were already present. Several dangerous mosquito borne diseases have been attributed to mosquitoes in the Upstate, NY region. These include EEE Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Virus. Residents living near the Cicero swamp area of Onondaga are plagued annually by the pesky creatures. Aerial spraying has been spotty at best and has only occured after the problem swirls out of control. The past 2 years aerial spraying has been scheduled just as the season drew to a close and residents had to endure the Spring and Summer months either indoors or covered with DEET and a prayer.
